Went to the first ever Porthleven Food Festival yesterday. Despite the awful weather in the morning, it was a great success. Crowds of people turned up to watch cookery demonstrations and enjoy the wide range of entertainment.
The main events were in the marquee on the harbour head, with Skinners bar serving Betty Stoggs ale and lots of interesting local food stalls. Some stalls actually SOLD OUT of food ! Lots of stalls lined the harbour as well. My favourite was the wild food stall, Foodswild, which served organic bunny and nettle burgers, razor clams wrapped in wild garlic leaves, and nettle beer. I met Antony Worral Thompson there, and he seemed really interested in the range of food on offer.
Jude Kereama from Kota restaurant and Nicky Adair cooked amazing food in front of an appreciative (and hungry) audience, along with many other outstanding chefs.
Well done to Porthleven Morris Men, and all the other performers.
We enjoyed listening to The Dolphins Fly in the marquee, but the brilliant finale to a fab day was seeing The Baker Brothers perform in the Harbour Inn.
Congratulations to the organisers. Looking forward to next year's event. Be there !
POINT TO POINT
Going over the border this weekend !
The Modbury Harriers are holding their Point to Point this Saturday 2nd. May at Flete Park, near Ivybridge in Devon. Pony Racing starts at 1pm. followed by horse races starting at 2pm.
A great day out. Bar, food, bookmakers and trade stands.
Good luck to Polly Gundry, top lady p2p jockey in the country, with a tally of 22 wins so far this season, and a Devon girl.
While in the area, call at the Modbury Inn for a drink. Great hospitality.
BADMINTON HORSE TRIALS
Going even further afield next weekend to Badminton. One of the highlights of my year. Very exciting ! It's good to get there on Friday so that you can walk the cross country course and see the fences at close quarters, as it gets extremely crowded on Saturday.
Being an artist myself, I enjoy seeing the artists and sculptors in the trade stands. One of the best is Sarah Coward who makes bronzes of horses, dogs and other creatures. She is showing her drawings for the first time this year. You will find her in the Rural Crafts Marquee.
WAR HORSE
Looking forward to seeing "War Horse" the following week at the New London Theatre. The puppetry looks amazing. Will report back after.
